What we do

From humble beginnings in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. We now help more than 215,000 cats and kittens every year through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 31 adoption centres.

Our work doesn’t stop there, however: we also provide an array of cat care information via our publications, website and Helpline ; promote the benefits of neutering to prevent unwanted litters from being born and becoming the abandoned cats of tomorrow and seek to educate people of all ages about cats and their care.

We run a neutering scheme every year to help owners who cannot afford the cost of the operation. This work is vital, as an unspayed female cat can be responsible for 20,000 descendants in just five years!

Financial help given by Cats Protection is means tested, due to our limited resources not everyone will qualify for financial help from Cats Protection.  To apply for a neutering voucher please telephone 03000 121212.

Our vision

Our vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs. It’s an ambitious vision. However, we truly believe it can be achieved because of our passion, our professional approach and simply because cats are among the UK’s most popular companion pets. Cats Protection has simple and clear objectives to help cats:

Homing - Finding good homes for cats in need
Neutering - Supporting and encouraging the neutering of cats
Information - Improving people’s understanding of cats and their care

Please note:- We can only take cats into the Adoption Centre by prior arrangement. Sadly, we have to run a waiting list.
